Our Story

A. E. de Kanter is husband and wife writing team, Andrew and Sarah E. de Kanter. Writing stories together was something God introduced to them later in life. For them, it is a process that brings healing, joy, and closeness. Writing novels is one arm of their ministry known as Better Story Ministries. Together, they have a passion for retelling biblical stories to re-enchant young adults with gospel themes.

Andrew and Sarah’s story started when they were both in high school at St. Thomas Episcopal in Houston, Tx. Andrew came from a Spanish family that moved to the United States when he was a toddler. Sarah was born and raised in Texas. They both became committed followers of Jesus during the time they met and have been following him (imperfectly) ever since. Sarah was the one to introduce Andrew to Jesus and his gospel. What a transformation that was!

After attending Cairn University, Andrew and Sarah were married and together had four children: Moses, Judah, Augustin, and Antonetta (Nettie). After Andrew graduated from Dallas Seminary, Andrew and Sarah ministered to a small congregation in the Central Valley of California called Enclave Community Church. Jozi, their fifth child, joined their family through adoption in 2022. Tragically, they lost Moses when he left home to attend UC Davis. Losing Moses is a heartache they carry with them everywhere they go.

Currently, Andrew and Sarah minister to college students in collaboration with Ignite the Ville at the University of Louisville. Andrew, has been serving Ignite as Impact Director while completing his doctorate from Southern Seminary. Among other things, Sarah and Andrew host classes at their home, where they teach students to read the Bible in context, through the lens of the gospel, and for life transformation. Their many interactions with Ignite students have shaped the stories they tell, but even more significantly, it is their shared grief of losing Moses that moves them to write.

Andrew and Sarah’s second novel, Joaquin, is scheduled to come out in 2027.
